Black Lives Matter: Getting Beyond the Hashtag

Contemplation and Dialogue
Montrose/Museum District
Rothko Chapel, 3900 Yupon Street, Houston, TX, 77006

Like much of the nation, the Chapel has been wrestling with our response to the lack of justice in the Michael Brown and Eric Garner cases and the possibilities for action going forward. Please join us for “Black Lives Matter,” which builds on our yearlong program series on Living As If: The Art, Spirituality, and Practice of Non-Violence. Harnessing the Chapel’s unique setting, the evening includes time for contemplation, an opportunity to dialogue in small groups about recent events, and the perspectives from four resource people: Dr. Alex Byrd, Associate Professor of History, Rice University; Judge Josefina Rendon, President, Association for Conflict Resolution-Houston; Dr. Assata Richards, Facilitator, Young Mothers Residential Program, Project Row Houses; and Dr. Mtangulizi Sanyika, retired Professor of Social Theology. A reception follows the program.
